Euro 2024: Frankfurt Mayor Displays Football Skills, Welcomes England Fans
The Lord Mayor of Frankfurt, Mike Josef, showcased his adept keepy-up skills in a video welcoming the England team and their supporters to the city for Euro 2024. In the video, Mayor Josef, alongside the mayors of Cologne and Gelsenkirchen, displayed controlled footwork, setting a lively tone for the upcoming tournament.
Expressing anticipation for the event, Mayor Josef, dressed in a suit, stated, "We are looking forward to welcoming England and their fans to the beautiful city of Frankfurt." He also highlighted the presence of a vast fan zone along the river, featuring a large floating screen for game viewing amid the scenic backdrop of the city.
Mayor Josef further emphasized Frankfurt's local beverage, Ebbelwoi (Apfelwein), likening it to cider but asserting its unique appeal.
Meanwhile, Mayor of Cologne, Henriette Reker, encouraged visitors to explore cultural sites in the city, including the contemporary art museum, while Mayor of Gelsenkirchen, Karin Welge, recommended trying the local culinary specialty, currywurst.
Germany anticipates hosting up to 800,000 British football enthusiasts for Euro 2024. However, the UK Foreign Office has issued advisories, warning fans about the potency of German beer and urging responsible consumption to avoid being barred from stadium entry. The guidance emphasizes the disparity in alcohol content between UK and German beers, with some traditional brews in Germany boasting ABV levels exceeding 16%.
Additionally, fans are advised to ensure the validity of their passports, obtain travel insurance, and purchase match tickets solely from authorized vendors. Tickets for Euro 2024 matches will be electronic, requiring validation via mobile phones at entry points. Unauthorized sale or purchase of tickets may result in legal consequences, as emphasized by the Foreign Office's cautionary statement.
