Tottenham's Manager Postecoglou:'The foundations are really fragile'
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou expressed concerns over the club's precarious foundations following their defeat by Manchester City, effectively ending their hopes for Champions League football next season.
In the pivotal match against City, Spurs fell short, losing 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Postecoglou acknowledged the significance of the defeat, stating, "The foundations are really fragile. The last 48 hours have shown me that. It's inside the club, outside the club. Outside, inside, everywhere. It's been an interesting exercise. It's just my observations, mate."
The buildup to the game saw mixed reactions from Spurs fans, with some reportedly content with the idea of losing to City to hamper Arsenal's title chances. Despite a spirited performance from Tottenham, Erling Haaland's goal in the 51st minute dampened the atmosphere, with home supporters chanting references to their north London rivals.
When questioned about the impact of the crowd's mood on the players, Postecoglou acknowledged its influence, stating, "Of course it does. It is what it is. I can't dictate what people do. They're allowed to express themselves any way they want. But yeah, when we've got late winners in games it's because the crowd's helped us."
Video footage captured Postecoglou engaging in a heated exchange with a Spurs fan during the match, while some home supporters were seen mimicking Manchester City's Poznan celebration after the opening goal.
Addressing the chants from Spurs fans and his priorities, Postecoglou remained focused on his objectives, stating, "I'm not interested, mate. I just don't care. Maybe I'm out of step, but I just don't care, I just want to win. I want to be successful at this football club, it's why I was brought in. So what other people, how they want to feel, and what their priorities are, are of zero interest to me. I know what's important to build a winning team - that's what I need to concentrate on."
