Nico Schlotterbeck Set to Join Germany's Euro 2024 Squad
Nico Schlotterbeck is poised to secure a spot in Germany's squad for the upcoming European Championship following his standout performances for Borussia Dortmund.
Having last represented Germany eight months ago, Schlotterbeck is making a return to the national team fold. As initially reported by Tagesschau and subsequently confirmed by the DFB, the Borussia Dortmund defender will feature in Germany's squad for the Euro 2024 tournament.
The inclusion of Schlotterbeck comes as recognition for his consistent displays for Borussia Dortmund, particularly in the latter part of the season. The 24-year-old has played a pivotal role in BVB's journey to the Champions League final, earning him a call-up to the national team after the crucial match against Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium on June 1.
Julian Nagelsmann had refrained from summoning Schlotterbeck since assuming managerial duties in October, citing concerns over his error-prone tendencies. However, the defender has now earned his place in the Germany squad as they aim to clinch the Euro 2024 title on home soil.
The provisional Germany squad will be unveiled on Thursday, with speculation rife regarding the potential inclusion of other Borussia Dortmund players. Niclas Füllkrug is reportedly in contention, alongside established figures such as Mats Hummels, Julian Brandt, and Karim Adeyemi.
Germany is scheduled to kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against Scotland on June 14, followed by matches against Hungary and Switzerland in the group stage.
