Barcelona Regain Second Place in La Liga Following Victory over Real Sociedad
Barcelona reclaimed the second position in the La Liga standings by defeating Real Sociedad 2-0 on Monday.
Real Sociedad appeared to have scored midway through the first half courtesy of Sheraldo Becker, but the goal was disallowed due to offside.
Barcelona gradually asserted dominance, with Raphinha striking the woodwork in the 38th minute, followed by Lamine Yamal breaking the deadlock two minutes later.
Yamal, 16, capitalized on an opportunity created by Ilkay Gündogan, converting from 15 yards out for his fifth league goal of the season.
Reflecting on the match, Yamal stated, "It was an important game to recover second place. Real started well, and we took a bit of time to find ourselves. But we got better little by little."
Raphinha sealed the victory with a penalty three minutes into stoppage time, awarded after Álvaro Odriozola was deemed to have handled the ball in the box.
The win propelled Barcelona to one point above Girona in the standings.
Real Sociedad currently sits in seventh place, trailing Real Betis by a single point.
